Opposition mounts ahead of draft Treaty Principles Bill

Ahead of David Seymour unveiling the draft version of his Treaty Principles Bill, community groups and political parties prepare to oppose the controversial legislation.

The Treaty Principles Bill is part of Act’s coalition agreement with National, and seeks to define the ‘principles’ of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, based on the three articles of the Treaty.

Though Act’s coalition partners have both agreed to support the Bill through its first reading and the select committee process, which will allow for a public debate and formal submissions process on the Bill, neither plan to allow it to go any further.
